Djanet’s great Tuareg festival, on UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage list, followed by a few days in the desert.
The Sebiba is held every year in Djanet between 1 Muharram and Ashura, following the Islamic lunar calendar. Men with their swords, women singing and cheering, drum rhythms and traditional dress: a ceremony that symbolises peace between the peoples of the oasis.
After the festival, the trip heads into the desert: the Essendilène guelta, the arches of Tikoubaouine and one last night out before heading back.
What you’ll see
- The night-time rehearsals in the ksour of Djanet
- The Timoulawine contest, the main day
- The final Sebiba ritual until sunset
