74x4 and short walks
Red dunes, sandstone arches and rock engravings at the far south-eastern edge of the Tassili.
The Tadrart Rouge lies south-east of Djanet, inside the Tassili n’Ajjer. Its reddish dunes run up against sandstone walls, narrow canyons and plains that change colour through the day.
The long stretches are covered by 4x4 and the rest on foot: short walks to climb the dunes, step into the canyons and see the rock art up close. Every night you camp somewhere new.
What you’ll see
- The dunes of Tin Merzouga, which turn red at sunset
- Moul N’Aga, Ouan n’Aguen and the arches of Tamezguida
- Oued In Djaren, one of the Tadrart’s great rock art sites
- The “Crying Cow” of Tegharghart, on the way back to Djanet
